Thermogenic Fat Burners: FAQ on Working Less but Losing More

The process of thermogenics in the body is very simple and the definition is simpler still. It defines as stimulation of the metabolism in an organism to create heat. This basically means that by increasing the heat in your body, you’re being thermogenic. Well isn’t that easy to understand? I bet it is. Thermogenics, in the recent decades, has been closely linked to weight loss. This is because it’s very easy to use thermogenics to lose those unwanted pounds. Exercise was the primary mode that thermogenics used to affect weight loss in people but there have been discoveries that have made it a bit easier to shed those few rolls of flesh. These discoveries were many and varied. People would often resort to any means just to lose some of the excess baggage.  Caffeine is one of the most popular thermogenic agents that is continually being used today. There is also capsaicin found in Cayenne pepper which boosts metabolism by a considerable amount, then there is mustard, salsa, cabbage, apples, lemons, apple cider vinegar and even iced water joins this list of so called thermogenic fat burners but the number one spot for the strongest, most effective fat burner goes to non-other than Ephedrine.

What is Ephedrine?

Ephedrine, a naturally occurring alkaloid, is basically from the Ma Huang plant. Also known as Ephedra, this botanical was used as a home remedy for hay fever, bronchitis and asthma in China. The history of this plant goes as far back as 5,000 years. If you’re living in the United States, Ephedrine is mostly available through a pharmacy but you’ll need to get a doctor’s prescription first before you can purchase any. Further, you can only purchase it for treatment of the respiratory ailments that has been mentioned beforehand. This is due to the legislative limitations that have been set by the U.S. Government and with the recommendation of the Food and Drug Administration. A deep shadow falls on Ephedrine and it has not since been lifted. This is mainly due to its connection with some premature deaths among the body building circles that abundantly utilized this drug for its, ironically, thermogenic properties. Ephedrine was also discovered to be synergistic and it was used with caffeine and aspirin to create what is still known today as the ECA stack or Ephedrine, caffeine and aspirin blend. The ECA stack helped body builders take out that extra fat that could chisel out that pec or that ab or that glut just enough to give them a resounding victory. Ephedrine did deliver but with some resounding side-effects as well and it did not fare well for those who blatantly abuse it.

What are the side-effects of Ephedrine and are they really lethal?

Ephedrine is a very powerful substance and it does give the promised effortless weight loss. This fact has been documented to be very true with the exhausting trials and testing that this drug has had to go through. Because the weight loss associated with Ephedrine came swiftly it was reluctantly banned from the U.S. Market, but this came with due reason. Here is a list of contraindications that tag along with Ephedrine use. There’s tachycardia, hypertension, cardiac arrhythmias, angina pectoris, and vasoconstriction. These affect the heart and the mechanisms involved with its function, but the list doesn’t end there. There is acne vulgaris, anorexia, nausea, restlessness, confusion, insomnia, dizziness, headaches, tremors, hyperglycemic reactions and in the extreme cases, there was mania or hallucinations. Ephedrine also mimics nervous system stimulations and this creates much trouble for a diagnosing physician and could mean a patient lost rather than saved all because of a misleading symptom.

There has been attempts at weakening the effects of Ephedrine and since it was found that synthesis of this substance was more cost effective than chemical isolation from the Ma Huang plant, there has been further attempts to weed out its more destructive consequences and the result was pseudoephedrine, a watered down version of the real thing but instead of managing to remove the adverse effects of Ephedrine, all that was done was, just like the positive effects, the negative effects were weakened as well. This diluted type of Ephedrine is now predominant in the weight loss market. It’s still mixed in a pseudoephedrine, caffeine and aspirin concoction that gives you that exponential oomph effect that is greater than the effect given by any of the key components alone.

If I do decide to use Ephedra or Ephedrine in its other forms, what dosages would you recommend?

The use of Ephedrine or any thermogenic fat burner is a personal choice. I only encourage you to give it great thought and check for the options that you have before jumping into this get-slim-quick scheme that could give you more problems than solutions. But, if you’ve given it enough thought and you are decided to give thermogenics a try, be sure to consult your physician or health care provider before administering the drug to yourself or to someone else. Another good thing to remember that due to the high sensitivity of the neuronal cells, your dosage of Ma Huang, Ephedrine, or Ephedra should be no be more than 8mg per serving, every six hours and not more often than this. Further, do not exceed a total of 24 mg per day.

Due to the dark history of Ephedrine, many thermogenic fat burners have also fallen under a similar shadow but when careful thought and research is accomplished into the use of a slimming agent, it is still possible to find a healthy but potent aid.
